The numbers we were all hoping to see—like mortgage rates dropping to 6 percent or existing-home sales surging by 14 percent—have been recalibrated. Instead, mortgage rates are holding steady closer to 6.5 percent, and existing-home sales are now projected to grow by a more modest 4 percent.
